CORONAVIRUS RELIEF FOR PRACTICES

Wednesday, the US Senate approved the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). Although still subject to approval by the US House of Representatives and signature by the president, the bill is likely to be signed into law by this weekend.

Among other things, the act creates the “Paycheck Protection Program,” which provides up to $349 billion to expand the Small Business Administration’s (SBA’s) existing 7(a) loan program to support new loan guarantees and subsidies. The program includes 100% federally backed loans to cover expenses like payroll, rent and benefits.

Current SBA lenders can make loans under the program immediately, with deferred payment terms.
